If you knew you were going to die tomorrow and asked, "What will be your legacy?" have an answer? Want to take a dribble, a smile without teeth to their final breath to know that your time here serves a purpose?
80 million baby boomers are reaching their age and wonder and the brand is what I go ...?"
We are asking: "What is my legacy?" I want my time on earth means something? "
Bill Clinton said: "The creation and maintenance of our own heritage should eat each of your waking hours."
The idea of 'Legacy' for me began when my father was asked about his heroic medaled, rich experience in the history of WWII in the front of his great daughter 5th grade class. He was a storyteller ... so that helped on the structure of fifty stories, each film.
Dad wrote then each of them by hand. I have written on the computer, we have revised and re-wrote, and handed them to my sister, an editor. We launched my 90 years. The book old father in a military museum, and the book now pass on from generation to generation. I know I will say, "That's my great, great, great grandfather book! "
Through this I began to learn about the legacy. My father's legacy was far richer. And I'm including his book as part of my legacy, because, yes, I helped make it happen. And future generations of my family will learn about my father because of what I did.
But once Indeed, I thought, "What are other forms of inheritance ... and how can I help people create their own legacies?"
I feel Most of the people think 'Legacy' let's all about money. That's part of the legacy, but not all of it. I believe Legacy can be broken into three areas:
1. Collect experiences.
This means for collecting your family history ... audio, video or print. Your parents, uncles, aunts, sisters, brothers, etc. Imagine how you would feel satisfied if those stories were captured for all generations after you?
2. Tell your story.
Yes, this is about you. They are called "Ethical Wills" or "Personal Legacy Statements. These stories tell the world that follows you ... you. What you did in your life, why he did, his personal philosophy on how to live a good life ... and yes, many of images. One hundred years of his personal legacy statement will be a great success in very large family.
3. Create your story.
This is the big one. Your imagination can run wild here because it is about all the things you can do to influence the world when you're here ... and affect to when you're gone.
It could be about money. You can leave for your favorite cause or put your name on the side of a building or hospital wing. It could be about an ongoing event. You can establish a foundation, an environmental movement or a charity.
This could be for something "small" ... and very personal. A song for your family or community. A perpetual garden in the center of town. An annual scholarship for a child than a year.
In "Physics the Soul ", Dr. Amit Goswami, said the purpose of life is" to learn, to love and be creative ... to develop what survives physical death ".
A legacy can be very simple and autonomous. Or it may be promoted for future generations.
Robert Kennedy said: "Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and the total of all these acts will be written the history of this generation. "
I guess the choice we all have is: do I want to leave a legacy?
An examined life, well lived, say yes.
